"WOW! Your new pieces are rabble-rousers -- I'm not sure where that word came from, if there is such. Just know that I appreciate the way the colors and shapes in your designs are able to wake me up! They awaken the light inside of me, that sometimes I forget is always there. Thank you for waking me up to the brightness of expansive possibilities. The titles of your pieces help me connect to the sounds I need to hear." Art Collector and Website Visitor

"I believe you are a wonderful poet." Poet, Texas

"Linnie, I am a bit overwhelmed by your writings. I have said many times that I really don't like poetry--but when I read yours I cannot say that. I think what I don't like is sentimental stuff. And you make me want to write." Website visitor

"I've been wanting to write to tell you how much I've enjoyed your website. In fact, I've been to it several times, when I need a break here at my computer, to get refocused and refreshed!"

"Your pastel paintings allow me to slip into a place of being, calm and centered, as I am drawn into harmony with the motion and colors. An exhilarating, yet peaceful experience! It's interesting how different paintings will stand out for me, depending on my perspective at any given moment."

"Your words are what really wow me! Thank you for sharing how and why books and writings take you on journeys to greater love and awareness. Your words awaken truths, deep inside of me, that have been there patiently awaiting a catalyst that would transform them into a reality my consciousness can grasp and understand. Your poems weave a tapestry inside my heart, connecting me to threads of a knowingness that has always existed."

PARK SLOPE ARTIST EXPLORES THE QUALITIES OF LIGHT

Park Slope artist, Linnie York, will display her collection of 24 new abstract water pastels on the theme, "The Qualities of Light" at the Brooklyn Heights Starbucks December 5-31.

The artist will host a reception on Friday, December 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the lower level. Three vocalists will present a range of songs from salon art songs and opera by coloratura dramatic soprano, Beatrice Noel; Irene Wilson singing sultry jazz and spiritually uplifting new age songs by Lauren Chessari.

York's subjects include an abstract series of radiant light images of daily life and travel experiences. A published poet, teacher, and workshop specialist, she developed this work in Swiss water-soluble pastel sticks.

"I am fascinated with the creamy way these radiant colors in water pastel lay down next to each other," York explained.

York works in small sizes, reminiscent of painter Arthur Dove's paintings exhibited by Alfred Stieglitz in New York in the first half of the 20th century.

Her abstract images "require a certain abandon to capture color and light play with clarity."

Known for her convictions that original art work should be affordable to all and her prolific painting, York's small framed and matted works have correspondingly small price tags.

Her work will be on display at the Brooklyn Heights Starbucks, 112 Montague Street.

SOUTHBURY: "BRILLIANT BEING" is the new show of summer paintings of Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Maine from September 11 through October 15, 2005 at Starbucks on the Southbury Green. Open 10:00 AM-11:00PM, Starbucks is located at 775 Main Street in Southbury, near Interstate-84, Exit 14.

Linnie York paints in her Brooklyn, New York studio located near The Brooklyn Museum of Art and the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. A student of color and light, she paints from her interior, allowing her hands to interpret her experiences and teach her the next step.

"Most of my friends paint 'en plen air'," responded York, "but my process is different. My paintings are metaphors, more about the experience than the eye's image."

This is the artist's twelfth solo or duo show, and only the third outside the New York City. Her abstract methods Òrequire a certain abandon to capture inner color and light play with clarity.Ó wrote the Brooklyn Park Slope Courier.

She developed her own technique, omitting the water required for an aquarelle effect. ÒI am fascinated with the creamy way these radiant colors in water pastel lay down next to each other to portray this other way of seeing,Ó York explained.

York's work echoes the abstraction of painter Arthur Dove who was exhibited by Alfred Stieglitz in New York in the first half of the 20th century. A close friend of Georgia O'Keefe, Dove is exhibited in the same room as O'Keefe at both the Whitney Museum of Modern Art and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Painter Arthur DoveÕs final work, Reflections on Nature, was exhibited in the 1997 traveling show at New BritainÕs New England Museum of Art. York traveled to see them in the archives of Wichita Kansas Art Museum.

"Additionally, for "Shifting Horizons" I expanded the use of color to more of a Stuart Davis palette and the forms of Maine are reminiscent of Marsden Hartley."

This prolific painter is known for her convictions that original art work should be affordable to all. YorkÕs small framed and matted works have correspondingly small price tags.

"There is no substitute for living with original art. Like live music, it has an added unseen dimension. Like fresh organic vegetables, it nourishes. Like a great poem, art deepens as it lives with you."
